The rise of Digicel Pantime Steel Orchestra began in 2000 and since then the band has grown from strength to strength. In 2001 the band performed in its first ever National Panorama competition, guided by the youngest arranger at the time, Andrew McIntosh. In 2002, the band made its devout on the Jazz scene performing as part of the Soufriere jazz line up and then again at the first ever Fond d’Or Jazz Festival. Since then the band has performed at the TransAmazonian Festival in Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni, French Guyana (October 2008), and represented St. Lucia in both Martinique and Guadeloupe as part of St. Lucia Tourist Board promotions. Members of the band actively participate in Trinidad panorama playing with bands such as Solo PanKnights, Witco Desperados and Clico Forzata. In 2008, members of the band played with “Cool and Smooth” Ebonites in Antigua and this is just one example of the relationships the band continues to build nationally, regionally and internationally. In 2006 the band won the National Junior Panorama Competition and placed second in the National Panorama Competition. The band continues to grow in size, now seventy (70), players strong and in ambition, as the band prepares to compete at “Pan in de Oval” in Barbados in May 2009. This year’s performance St.Lucia Jazz, and Jazz on the beach will be the bands third but hopefully not its last as it continues to seek out ways to play a larger greater role in the festivals development and the development of its members.
